Information for Patients

Thank you for considering RollerAid™ as part of your rehabilitation effort. We are pleased to be part of your recovery process. We believe that because the RollerAid™ swivels on its front wheels, it will greatly enhance your ability to remain non-weight-bearing during the healing process.

Patient Benefits:

  1. Provides a painless alternative to crutches or a walker
  2. Swiveling front wheels for easy steering and maneuvering
  3. Eliminates tripping or falling associated with crutches
  4. Less fatigue due to conserved energy
  5. Frees up hands
  6. Prevents atrophy by strengthening proximal muscles in affected leg
  7. Provides stability for those with compromised balance
  8. Improves circulation in affected leg
  9. Partially elevates affected leg for less pain and swelling
  10. Use as a bench or foot stool during rest
  11. Folds in seconds for transport or storage (no need to disassemble)

Not only does the RollerAid™ take less energy to propel on hard, level ground as compared with a walker or crutches, it also improves balance due to its broad base of support. Considering these benefits, it may seem surprising to hear that the RollerAid™ strengthens muscles instead of allowing atrophy, that is, wasting away of muscles and bone mass. Atrophy is one of the negative consequences of using crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs. By exercising most or all of the muscles around the knee, hip, and trunk during regular use, recipients benefit from strengthening of those muscles in both the injured and uninjured legs.

Comparison of Orthopedic Leg Scooters

RollerAid™ exhibits the best combination of features and performance of any orthopedic leg support scooter available today.

A Leg Up and Rollabout scooters impose a considerable burden on patients who are continually forced to lift the front of a scooter weighing nearly 20 lbs in order to turn corners. If you make 200 turns in the course of a day you will have lifted nearly a ton, or the equivalent of a Geo Metro! RollerAid™ has easy turn front wheels that make changing direction quick and easy. No more lifting required!

RollerAid™ also offers the best safety features of any orthopedic leg support scooter available today. It features multiple brakes and a front and rear locking feature which makes transfer on and off the RollerAid™ safer and easier than either Roll A Bout or A Leg Up. The RollerAid™ also has the widest wheel separation available which leads to greater stability and it does this without compromising maneuverability!

ALegUp offers easier adjustment and a slightly greater range of adjustment than RollABout but neither offer the wide range, infinite adjustment and quick release features found on the RollerAid™. Roll-A-Bout and A Leg Up have one inch bench height increments that lead to compromise bench heights which can cause back pain and leg discomfort. RollerAid™ has infinite adjustment so it can fit you exactly and its quick release feature allows you to adjust it easily for indoor or outdoor shoes.

The RollerAid™ also possesses the widest range of comfort features. The knee bench incorporates sophisticated memory foam that reduces pressure on casts and provides long term comfort to users. The bench also makes for a comfortable seat should you become tired – a feature Rollabout cannot claim. RollerAid™ also has soft, molded handlebar grips both for comfort and safety – on Rollabout you are holding painted metal.

RollerAid™ gives you the freedom to carry small articles without the use of a shoulder bag or a bag on the handlebars that can easily destabilize the scooter. It even offers a holder for water or your favorite latte! RollABout and A Leg UP don’t offer these features.

The table below sets out a detailed comparison between competing leg support scooters. You can easily see that RollerAid™ is the clear winner!
